The aquarium was a total let down on the inside. For five bucks, you shouldn't complain no matter, but still. It was one big room with lots of mismarked fish.
And they were doing renovations, so there was a big open area of nothing where they were putting in the glass for something big and impressive in the future. I did enjoy the shark show. The guy to the left hugged the sharks and there was a very adorable sea turtle that I also liked a lot. After listening to that presentation for about 20 minutes, we made our way through the rest of the room and then saw an auditorium. That got our attention because there were sea lions swimming around. The sea lion show was only 20 minutes away, so we decided to chill out in the auditorium for a few minutes before heading outside to see them.
The sea lion show was fun. There was a 3 year old sea lion that had only been in training for about 3 months. After him was a big, old, macho sea lion who has to perform a lone because he's so aggressive! It was interesting and funny to watch. I had the opportunity to go down and get a nasty sea lion kiss, but I passed. I'm gagging right now as I write thinking about it again. After that show, we were outside and realized that there was much more to see outside! We saw another building that was one big tank with lots of swimming things in it. Then we saw some crocodiles (endangered, and looking oh so calm, almost calm enough to want to touch- almost) in a caged in area with more turtles. These turtles were not as cute as the swimming ones, but there were a gazillion of them! We moseyed from there and stumbled upon a bird show. I'm not certain why there was a bird show at an aquarium, but I didn't ask questions! It was a cute enough show, but after about 3 minutes of birds dunking basketballs and speaking Spanish, we were ready to go. We ended the day at the aquarium fully satisfied with our less than $5 experience.
By this time, we were getting hungry, so we made our way out to the parking lot full of pulmonías and told the driver we wanted to go to plazuela Machado. He, like our hotel concierge, told us that it's a better place at night because it has live music. Well, live music in a plaza in Mexico is a bit different than it is in Europe. It's loud. And it's Mexican music. I figured we could still eat well and people watch in the daytime, and not return to the hotel with a headache!
