Iván had told me that he could pick us up if we got back after 6. At the time, I assumed we’d be back closer to 3:00, so I passed on the offer. However, later in the day, he let us know that Eddy would be celebrating his birthday at Wings later Monday night if we wanted to go. I told him yes and that we’d be getting back around 6:30 if he could still pick us up. Done.
We got picked up, dropped off, and picked up again two hours later. Off we went with Carlos, Quinantzin, and Eddy to Wings. When we got there, Boby and his wife Olga (from Superbowl party) and Jared (my Cardinals buddy) and his girlfriend Iris (who was not at the party) were already seated and eating. Judith (our darts buddy from Saturday night) showed up a little later. We had good food and lots of fun. The wait staff served Eddy a pingüino (penguin), which is like a Hostess cupcake, with a candle and a round of Las Mañanitas (their traditional birthday song). It was hilarious because they came out with the lit candle while Eddy had gone to the bathroom. He ended up being in the bathroom longer than expected, so the manager ended up knocking on the door! When he came out, we sang again.
This night was less rowdy than most nights (it was Monday night after all), so that was nice. At some point, we ended up talking about Boby’s upcoming birthday on Thursday. I got the invite and everyone was so excited that I’d be trying pozole for the first time.
The night ended and we made our way home. We were not looking forward to the alarm on Tuesday morning. But such is life.
